Common Use Cases

1. Troubleshooting Unexpected Ratings

Scenario:

You expect a photo to rate 8.0+ but it's showing 6.5

Solution:

  1. Select the photo
  2. Open Detection controls
  3. Disable "Object Detection"
  4. Click "Re-analyze Image"
  5. If rating improves significantly, object detection may have a false positive

2. A/B Testing Detection Impact

Scenario:

You want to see how background analysis affects a specific photo's rating

Workflow:

  1. Select a photo with a cluttered background
  2. Note the current rating (e.g., 7.2)
  3. Disable "Background Analysis" and re-analyze
  4. Compare the new rating (e.g., 8.0)
  5. Re-enable to confirm the difference

3. Speed Optimization

Scenario:

You need to process 500 images quickly and only need detailed analysis on select photos

Workflow:

  1. Go to Settings → Advanced Detection
  2. Disable both features globally
  3. Process all 500 images (saves ~125ms per image = 62.5 seconds total)
  4. Use Detection toggles to selectively re-analyze specific images with features enabled

Performance Impact

Setting Time Saved
Background Analysis disabled ~50ms per image
Object Detection disabled ~75ms per image
Both disabled ~125ms per image

Settings Update: When you use Detection toggles, the global settings are updated temporarily. To permanently configure these features, visit Settings & Thresholds.

Providing Feedback on Detections

Available in v0.11.1+ — You can help improve PhotoRater AI accuracy by providing feedback on detection results.

How to Provide Feedback

When viewing photo details, you'll see thumbs up/down buttons below each detection result:

  1. Open a photo in the Detail view
  2. Scroll to the detection results section
  3. For each detection (Pose, Eyes, Glare, Smile, Blur), you'll see two buttons:
    • Thumbs Up (Purple): Click if the AI detection was correct
    • Thumbs Down (Red): Click if the AI detection was incorrect
  4. Once clicked, the button becomes disabled (one submission per detection)
